Macintosh CD-ROM Version

IMPORTANT: If you are using a screen saver program, make sure it is turned off. You can turn it back on after the instalation is complete.

Quit any open application programs or desk accessories.
Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive and open the disk by double-clicking it's icon.

All Macintosh software is compressed. The installer program will expand them during installation. Do not drag them to your hard disk.

Determine what Heartsoft Software you are going to install, and what CD-ROM's or Diskettes you will need. Here are some examples:

Bestsellers	CD-Rom, and Bestseller Installation disk.
K-8 Library	CD-ROM, and K-8 single Installation disk.
Bestseller ESL	CD-ROM, and Bestseller ESL single installation disk.

IMPORTANT: If you are installing the K-8 Library,the Bestsellers,or the Bestsellers ESL with the old control disk installation, you will need to put the 3.5" floppy in the disk drive of your computer first! This rule needs to be followed on the Normal, Server, and Client installs.

DETERMINE WHICH TYPE OF INSTALLATION:

Normal:	This method of installation is intended for standalone machines. All the Heartsoft Software will be installed and contained on the machine where it is to be used.

Server:	This method of installation is the first step in the Network installation. It must be done before the client install. In order to run the Server installation, the server drive needs to be accessible by the computer you are doing the installation from, i.e. on the desktop. You can use your chooser to get access to the server drive. The majority of the software will be installed onto the server, only aliases will be installed on the client machine. This saves valuable hard drive space. Network speed with Heartsoft products is very fast. The speed can be affected by the amount of users, the speed of your computers, and the network itself.

Client:	This is the final step in the Network installation. After you have finished the Server Installation, it is now time to install all the clients that will be accessing Heartsoft. This is based on the same principal as the Server Installation. You need to have the server drive mounted on the desktop of the client machine. Follow the Client Installation Instructions below, and the Heartsoft programs will link to the server and appear on the desktop of the client machine.

NORMAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: (remember, you need to have the installation disk in the disk drive)

For normal stand alone installtion, click the "Normal" button on the screen.
Now the installer will search foe all available hard drives to install the software to and list them for you. Choose the drive where you would like Heartsoft to reside and click "OK".
The installation will run it's course and will place a folder with all of your Heartsoft programs's in it on the desktop. (these are aliases, the main software will remain on the hard drive).

The installation is now complete. Open the K-8 folder on the desktop and double click on any program you wish to run. To quit press the escape key to exit.

SERVER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: (remember, you need to have the installation disk in the Disk drive. Also make sure you are at the Server or you have the Server drive mounted on the desktop, of the client machine from which you are installing the server)

For server's installation, click the "Server" button on the screen.
Now the installer will search for all available hard drives to install the software to and list them for you. Choose the server where you would like Heartsoft to reside. If the server drive is not showing up, you need to go to your "chooser" and mount the server on your desktop.
After you have selected the server drive, click "OK". The installation program will place all of the software onto the server.

The installation is now complete. In order to use the Heartsoft programs, you need to go to your client machines and follow the client installation process below.

CLIENT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: ( remember you need to have the installation disk in the Disk drive. Also make sure you have the server mounted on the client machine you are installing from.)

For client installation, click the "Client" button on the screen.
Now the installer will search for all available hard drives to install the software to and list them for you. Choose the server drive where you previously installed the software and click "OK". (If your server drive is not showing up, use the "chooser" to mount the server to your desktop)
After you have clicked "OK", the installer will link the client with the server programs and place a Heartsoft K-8 folder on your desktop. This folder now contains all the aliases for the Heartsoft programs.

The installation is now complete. To use the Heartsoft programs, open the Heartsoft K-8 folder and double click the title. To quit, simply press escape.

Installing to Windows 95/98/ME/NT Versions

IMPORTANT: If you are installing Heartsoft products on a network server, please go to those instructions (see below). Return on this section once you have completed the initial network setup. (The Windows 95/98/ME/NT version only comes on CD-ROM, is only installed from the CD, and does not run from the CD).

Click on "Start" and select "Run".
When the RUN window appears, click on Browse.
When the BROWSE window appears, click on the pull down tab just below the Drives section and click on the appropriate drive, for Floppy usually A: and CD-ROM usually D:
In the middle left selection box, double click on SETUP.EXE (Also included on this CD-ROM is a guided tour of our newest software program Thinkology. Don't forget to check it out. There is nothing to install, just double click Trilogy.exe).

(Make sure you have the server drive published to the client you are getting ready to install on the desktop) (remember, you need to have the installation disk in the 3.5" Disk drive)

Insert the 3.5 disk into the appropriate drive. Insert the CD into the CD drive.
If you are not in Windows type WIN.
Click on "Start" and select "Run".
When the RUN window appears, click on Browse.

The installation is now complete. In order to use the Heartsoft programs you need to open the Heartsoft K-8 folders and double click any game you wish to play. To quit, simply press escape. The program shortcuts will also be under your start menu in the "programs" field.
